There’s an interesting interview with Jam & Lewis on the Mixonline website. It mostly delves into the production environment Jam & Lewis like and other industry tidbits, but there is one interesting piece of news. They nonchalantly mention that work is being done on the latest Time album as if its something of non-historic value. Why couldn’t they take the interview a little more in that direction?!

Not to fear, there’s a little more information about the upcoming Time album on Pop Matters in an article covering the Time’s full reunion shows in Las Vegas. The boys performed a new song in their show called ‘See through’ (cause that’s their favourite colour on a woman.. mwa-HA!) and are looking to finish the rest of  their album this US Autumn.

I know this is probably old news in Internet time but its still worth posting about. Teddy Riley has come out of the album track widerness and delivered a remix to John Legend’s latest single ‘Its Over’ for his album Evolver.

Truth be told, the original album version sounds a lot more like classic Teddy production (I was convinced Teddy produced it also until I was told otherwise), but alas, it is actually The Neptunes on production. Kudos to them really cause the track is nice. John Legend even kicked in some Aaron Hall scats to complete the vibe.

Between ‘Its Over’ and ‘Green Light’ Legend has definitely kicked this album off right.

In what might seem the most unlikeliest of projects for DJ Quik, Snoop Dogg, and Teddy Riley, the trio, now known as QDT, have contributed their own version of Johnny Cash’s “I Walk The Line” on the upcoming release Johnny Cash Remixed (due out stateside January 27th).

As weird as this all might seem it begins to make more sense when you listen to Snoop’s latest album, Ego Trippin’ and the song ‘My Medicine’, a tribute song to Cash. Going further back, Teddy has a history of producing and remixing old rock legends, remixing the Rolling Stones‘ ‘Love Is Strong’ in ’94, and producing two cuts (Something for your Head & Fly Away) from Tom Jones‘ album The Lead and How to Swing It in 2003.

Having said all that, I really don’t have high hopes for this. I must have it. But I don’t have high hopes.

Also on ‘Cash Remixed is Pete Rock reinterpreting Cash’s ‘Folsom Prison Blue’.

When I find them I’ll post them up but I’m already having flashbacks of the Phil Collins remix project Urban Renewal. It just never ends well.

Looks like Teddy Riley’s resurgence is gaining more momentum with announcement that he is providing production for EPMD’s new reunion album We Mean Business (due out stateside December 9th) along with former Little Brother member/producer, 9th Wonder. The first single, ‘Listen Up‘, is produced by Teddy and is floating around the net. For a sneak preview you can check it here.

Judging by the single it looks like Teddy’s getting his talk-box and New Jack beats back on. Bodes well for the rest of the album.

Mexican super-producers and Flyte Tyme co-horts Bobby Ross & Izzy Avila aka The Avila Brothers are in the studio working with Anthony Hamilton and Deborah Cox on their respective new albums.

Anthony’s new album, The Point of it All (Due out December 2nd stateside), also has Soulquarian James Poyser and Plant Life’s Jack Splash working on production. Deborah Cox is tapping into the dream team that made Janet what she is, hiring the legendary Jam & Lewis, Big Jim Wright, and the Avila Brothers her upcoming album, The Promise (due out stateside November 11th). Also working on Deborah’s album are Devo Springsteen (John Legend, Kanye West, Estelle) & Shep Crawford (Tamia, Yolanda Adams, Blu Cantrell).

While the Avila Brothers are best known for their work with R&B superstars Usher, Mary J Blige & Mariah Carey, they have earnt their chops Soul-side with their premo work on their own debut album The Mood: Soundsational and Bobby Ross’ own unreleased solo material (where is that album Bobby?). If you’ve heard either of the aforementioned productions you will understand what there is to get excited about.

Looks like Teddy may be hooking up with fellow Harlemite Juelz Santana on his upcoming album ‘Born to Win, Built to Lose (The Reagan Era)’. You can check the brief interview on MTV here

Looks like this has been in the works for a while but for those out of the loop Teddy has been working with up and coming artist M Watts who also happens to be his nephew.

Watts’ debut album, ‘The M Watts Project‘ is still a work in progress but apparently has his debut single “Brag & Boast” in circulation. You can check “Brag & Boast” on Watts’ Myspace

As I scavenged through the net to find videos of this show I kept reading about the T-Pain massacre he did on “I Want Her”.. nothing could have prepared me for what was waiting. I’ll let you see for yourselves. Regardless though, and something I saw echoed across a lot of other blogs was, once that “Rump Shaker” horn dropped.. it was all over.

More on the VH1 Hip Hop Honors New Jack performance. Still waiting for a rip (if you got a link hit us up on the comments) but from the sounds of the breakdown below it was a hell of a show!

“Hip hop entrepreneur and producer Diddy took the stage to introduce his mentor and big brother, Andre Harrell, giving him props for setting the stage and paving the way for him to become the artist he is today, calling him the “Berry Gordy of his time.” Also paying homage to Teddy Riley, Diddy dubs him the “first dude to rock the dark shades indoors,” citing him as the “original best of both worlds in hip hop & R&B” and as one of the “greatest producers of all time.”

Next, in true New Jack Swing form, a medley of artists took the stage to salute the genre with the Guy banger, “I Like” performed by Ne-Yo and the Keith Sweat hit, “I Want Her” performed by T-Pain, all with the man himself, Teddy Riley on the keyboard. Kool Moe Dee took the stage, outfitted in his signature dark shades, setting it off with the New Jack Swing hit, “How You Like Me Now.”

And as if that wasn’t enough, Riley took the stage giving the crowd what they had been waiting for, rocking the house with the Blackstreet hit “No Diggity” and the all-time crowd-pleaser, “Rump Shaker.”"

“As Diddy took the stage, the crowd began to chant “Bad Boy” so loudly, it felt contrived, but the label impresario was clearly honored to introduce the Teddy Riley New Jack Swing tribute. “Teddy let you know how it felt to be from Harlem. His swagger was impeccable. He’s the reason I started wearing shades,” Diddy said. Doug E. Fresh warmed up the set before T-Pain took over with Guy’s 1987 number-one hit “I Want Her.” In a three-piece suit, Kool Moe Dee kept the crowd in ’87, delivering his classic “How Ya Like Me Now” as if twenty years haven’t passed. Then Ne-Yo and Keyshia Cole went head to head with a sexy duet of Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time,” the best song off of 1992’s Dangerous. To top it off, Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall performed renditions of “No Diggity” and “Rumpshaker.””
